Dr. Kelly's research involves the design and development of new medical technologies, in particular circuits for neural stimulation and for inductively-coupled wireless power and data telemetry. He has worked since 1996 on the development of a retinal prosthesis to restore functional vision to the blind. He is now developing technologies for several other neural stimulators, as well as experimental systems for neuroscience research.
Dr. Kelly earned his S.B. in 1996, M.Eng. in 1998, and Ph.D. in 2003 in Electrical Engineering from MIT. He joined the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2003 as a Research Health Scientist, and worked as a Visiting Scientist at MIT before joining ICES at CMU.
Dr. Kelly’s work has been covered by the Pittsburgh Business Times, and more information on his work can be found at www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/skkelly.
