Smart Infrastructure Research Consortium
Located in the new Collaboration Center and in the Institute for Complex Engineered Systems (ICES) – Hamburg Hall
The Consortium will be the center piece of PSII. It will bring together international industry, economic development organizations, government and academic players in Smart Infrastructure for collaboration to make western Pennsylvania a hub for these activities. Will have an advisory board.
Bombardier Smart Infrastructure Collaboration Center
Located in Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept (ECE) - Hamerschlag Hall
This will be a state-of-the art collaboration and distance-learning center focused on enabling national and international participation in Smart Infrastructure and Smart Transit Technology collaboration, research and educating that next generation of infrastructure and transportation technology professionals.
IBM Smarter Infrastructure Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon
Located in Civil and Environmental Engineering Dept (CEE) – Porter Hall
Led by Jim Garrett, the IBM Smarter Infrastructure Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon contains a computing cloud from IBM, a 3D visualization cave for data and model visualization, and a high-end videoconference facility. This lab will be focused on the research of the analysis, visualization and storage for the large amounts of data needed to enable Smarter Infrastructure. This will be a new laboratory environment fitted with specific computer hardware and software to enable the Smart Infrastructure Incubator.
Center for Sensed Critical Infrastructure Research (CenSCIR)
Led by Jose Moura and Irving Oppenheim, the Center for Sensed Critical Infrastructure Research (CenSCIR) explores and develops new sensors and signal processing techniques
for infrastructure applications.
Infrastructure/Facilities Information Modeling and Visualization Lab
Led by Burcu Akinci, the Infrastructure/Facilities Information Modeling and Visualization Lab explores and develops new approaches to information and visualization
for use in infrastructure delivery and management applications.
Infrastructure/Facilities Information Analytics Lab
Led by Lucio Soibelman, the Infrastructure/Facilities Information Analytics Lab explores and develops new approaches to data management and data mining for
providing decision support for infrastructure applications.
Smart Infrastructure Testbed Management Center
Located in Civil and Environmental Engineering Dept (CEE) – Porter Hall
This management center will provide core management and display functionality for the campus-wide Smart Infrastructure testbed known as "Sensor Andrew". Testbed will include research interaction with mobile devices such as vehicles and mobile robots.
Bombardier Smart Infrastructure Test Track Facility
Located at the Bombardier Facility on Lebanon-Church Road
Bombardier will provide access on a select basis to their existing mass-transit test track for Bombardier approved research projects. This work will be specifically focused on 21st century mass transit infrastructure activities.
Smart Infrastructure Field Test Facility
Located at the LTV Hazelwood/Robot City Site
The property known as the LTV Hazelwood/Robot City site is currently being used for field robotics activities and will be used for field testing of transit-related mobile devices associated with Smart Infrastructure research.
