Multi-Scale Processing and Mechanisms of Next Generation Steel Coatings
Approximately 33% of all sheet steel is coated to inhibit corrosion. Subsequent processing steps such as bending, temper rolling forming leveling and stamping can strain the coating and cause it to crack or de-bond. This project will project will study coatings microstructures and crack formation to increase macroscale crack resistance.
