Test Of Curved Tubular Flange Girder Bridge System Under Deck Placement Conditions

Curved steel highway bridges are needed for complex highways in urban and suburban areas and in difficult terrain. They are often critical components of a new or re-constructed highways, and are expensive and time-consuming to design, fabricate, and construct. The project will complete the testing of a new steel girder system for curved highway bridges. The system, known as the curved tubular flange girder (CTFG) system, has been studied extensively using numerical simulation, but has never been tested in the laboratory. The CTFG system has considerable technical advantages over the conventional curved steel I-girder system. The project will provide Federal Highway Adminstration, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and High Steel Structures, Inc with final test results on the CTGF system for highway bridges.
