Article Posted On 7/12/2013

We are pleased to announce the promotion of two faculty members to leadership positions within ICES and the College of Engineering (CIT). As of July 1, 2013, ICES Director Gary Fedder has assumed the position of Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering and Burak Ozdoganlar has assumed the position of ICES Associate Director. Dr. Fedder will continue to serve as director of ICES.

As the Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Fedder will develop and execute a college-wide strategy for major research initiatives; coordinate research-related issues between the college and university; co-lead, with the Associate Dean for Finance and Operations, the development of consistent and coordinated college-wide procedures for pre- and post-award research administration; develop and oversee a process for distribution of all college-based research-related grants for student fellowships, equipment, seed research funds, etc.; and assist in the creation and implementation of the overall communication strategy related to research activity in the college.

As the Associate Director of ICES, Dr. Ozdoganlar will work closely with Dr. Fedder in his dual role as Associate Dean for Research and as ICES Director. In particular, Dr. Ozdoganlar will help manage day-to-day operations of ICES, engage with CMU faculty and executive staff to help identify and develop new multi-disciplinary proposal opportunities within the scope of ICES; network with industry, government and academia to link CIT faculty members with external people in areas of mutual interest; guide the promotion of ICES research through various media; co-direct the state-funded Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance (PITA) and Research for Advanced Manufacturing in Pennsylvania (RAMP) programs; and manage the annual Dowd and Northrop-Grumman graduate fellowship selection.
