ICES Welcomes Amanda Formato as New Administrative Assistant
Article Posted On 5/1/2012
ICES is pleased to welcome Amanda Formato as its new administrative assistant. Although Amanda is new to ICES, she brings her knowledge of university life, policies, and workflow to this position, having worked previously at Carnegie Mellon (CMU).
She began her career at CMU as a student employee in the business office of the Graduate School of Industrial Administration (GSIA), now the Tepper School of Business. At the time, she was also working on a bachelor's degree in early childhood education at Carlow University. Upon completion of her degree, she accepted a full-time teaching position at the Congregation Beth Shalom Early Childhood Department in Squirrel Hill. Amanda then spent four years there, teaching and also acting as interim director of the program.
However, Amanda says, "I missed the campus life and working in a university setting." Amanda is pleased to return to CMU and begin her work at ICES. Here, she has found a collegial atmosphere, a "friendliness and outgoingness" that confirms "this is the type of environment I want to be in."
As a true Pittsburgher, Amanda enjoys supporting the home teams, visiting Kennywood Park once a year, and eating at Primanti's in her spare time. She comes from a close-knit family and community, which are a big part of her life, and she tries to visit the Carnegie Library once a week and read as much as she can. She also enjoys hiking, biking, fishing, and camping with her husband. We warmly welcome Amanda to the ICES community.
