Article Posted On 11/3/2009

Chemical Engineering undergraduate Abigail Ondeck presented the research she is conducting with ICES Special Faculty Nisha Shukla at the Research Posters at the Pennsylvania (PA) Capital Conference, in Harrisburg. Shukla and Ondeck, who is supported by Intel's First Year Research Experience, have been working on "Shape and Size Controlled Synthesis Nanoparticulate Catalysts." This work serves as an example of how nanoparticulate catalysts have been applied to solve issues pertaining to ecologically friendly fuel burning.

Ondeck and Elise Walton - a Carnegie Mellon undergraduate in Art - had the opportunity to join 22 other institutions that each showcased undergraduate research to PA legislators. They met with PA legislators and legislative aides and were also recognized by Jeanne Schmedlen, Director of Special Projects and Chief of Protocal who was there representing the Speaker of the House. Ondeck traveled to the conference with Elise Walton, a Carnegie Mellon undergraduate in Art, and Jennifer Keating-Miller, assistant director of undergraduate research and national fellowships.
