Article Posted On 7/17/2009

ICES Associate Research Professor Ender Finol is pleased to announce that his graduate advisee Gail Siewiorek has received the John and Claire Bertucci Fellowship. The fellowship is offered by the College of Engineering (CIT) to outstanding graduate students to help with their tuition costs. Biomedical engineering graduate student Dennis Trumble is also a recipient. This award serves as a strong endorsement for both Gail and Dennis' performance.

Dr. Finol says, "Gail's nomination and subsequent award of the John and Claire Bertucci Fellowship is well deserved given her impressive academic record and productivity as a Ph.D. candidate in biomedical engineering. She has been extraordinarily industrious during the first four years of her Ph.D. program at CMU and possesses qualities necessary to be successful in a research career."

Gail's thesis involves experimental testing and design of cerebral protection devices for carotid artery stenting. As of June 2009, she has seventeen publications in the form of book chapters, peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, and conference papers and abstracts.
