It has been a few short months since the Pennsylvania Smart Infrastructure Incubator (PSII) held its official groundbreaking. In that time, the PSII has formalized several new labs and is pleased to announce their faculty directors.
The new "Infrastructure/Facilities Information Modeling Laboratory" will be headed by Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Professor Burcu Akinci and will focus on information modeling and visualization for the construction, operation and maintenance of facilities and infrastructure assets. Lucio Soibelman, CEE professor, will be faculty director of the new "Infrastructure/Facilities Information Analytics Laboratory." This lab will focus on a variety of analytic approaches associated with the construction, operation and maintenance of facilities and infrastructure assets. Both of these labs will be housed within the new PSII IBM facility.
Professor Irving Oppenheim will succeed James Garrett as the CEE faculty co-director for CenSCIR, which is becoming more specifically focused on research for infrastructure sensors and signal processing for sensors. Jose' M.F. Moura will continue to be the ECE faculty co-director for CenSCIR.
Jim Garrett has moved into the role of one of three faculty directors of the new overall PSII. He will be directing the incubator with Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Head T.E. Schlesinger and ICES Directory Gary Fedder.
News about the PSII is now available on-line on the PSII web site.
