Article Posted On 6/19/2009
ICES faculty and staff will be presenting to the media at the College of Engineering's third annual information technology media fellowship program on June 22 and 23. Presenters include Center for Sensed Critical Infrastructure Research (CenSCIR) Executive Director Matt Sanfilippo, CenSCIR faculty members Priya Narasimhan and Raj Rajkumar, and graduate students Mario Berges and Anthony Rowe. Presenters also include ICES Bioengineering Technologies Cluster faculty researchers Phil Campbell and Lee Weiss.
Media participants in the program include national journalists Larry Greenemeier, associate editor of technology for Scientific American; Erico Guizzo, associate editor of IEEE Spectrum Magazine; Mary K. Pratt, a correspondent for Computer World; and Christopher Gorski, a producer and reporter for Discoveries and Breakthroughs in Science. The journalists will spend two days on the Carnegie Mellon campus, meeting faculty and getting a personal look at some of the university’s technology research.
"The fellowship enables leading technology and science journalists to deepen their knowledge of emerging technologies, and provides a wonderful opportunity for our faculty members to broaden their knowledge about how the media work," said Pradeep K. Khosla, dean of Carnegie Mellon's College of Engineering and founding director of Carnegie Mellon CyLab.
The fellowship program is supported also by Carnegie Mellon's Department of Media Relations and the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, which has arranged for the fellows to visit several Oakland-based startups.
