On Friday, May 7, the Center for Sensed Critical Infrastructure Research (CenSCIR) hosted its third annual symposium with much success. CenSCIR Executive Director Matt Sanfilippo reports that this year's event "included our largest attendance ever from a wide variety of industry sectors." Representatives from academia, industry, and government included 25 participating companies, government representatives from the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security and Los Alamos National Labs and a representative from the Arab Emirate, Qatar representing Qatar Science and Technology Park.
The morning speakers included Jurij Paraszczak, Director of IBM Research Industry Solutions and IBM Research Relationship Manager to the Venture Capital Group; Charles R. Farrar, Director of The Engineering Institute at Los Alamos National Laboratory; and Jon Pollack, Senior Vice President, GeoDecisions, Inc. CenSCIR faculty and graduate students also presented on projects including the rapidly growing Sensor Andrew Project applications and the Instrumented Pipeline Initiative Project with Concurrent Technologies Corporation and the Department of Energy. The day ended with an afternoon poster session of CenSCIR graduate student projects.
"Our speakers reinforced the importance of this technology to the nation as we work to rebuild our infrastructure and improve efficiencies in our economy," Sanfilippo says.
