Welcome to the Center for Sensed Critical Infrastructure Research!

Welcome to the Center for Sensed Critical Infrastructure Research (CenSCIR) at Carnegie Mellon University. At CenSCIR we are working to deliver electronic “nervous systems” to critical infrastructure through the use of sensors systems, processes and technologies.

To avoid costly failures and provide a 21st century infrastructure, government and industries must build their critical infrastructures with these "nervous system" to collect and feed data to systems that interpret the data and allow for better decision making.

Our center performs research that explores the requirements for this technology, provides design guidance for it, and provides the clear justification for implementers, operators and future designers of these “sensed” critical infrastructure systems. Our research helps to provide sensor data-driven awareness of the usage and condition of infrastructure systems (both for components and the entire network), and proactive, intelligent decision support and control of these critical infrastructure systems over their lifetime.

Please take some time to look at our research and people. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Executive Director, Matthew Sanfilippo, or use the faculty and staff directories to identify potential contacts. We welcome your comments and your ideas.

Thank you for your interest in our work and the continued evolution of CenSCIR. We look forward to working with you in the near future.
