Compliant Biomechanics of Blood Clots in Arteriovenous Grafts
This research seeks to use computational modeling and simulation to understand the dynamics of blood flow in an arteriovenous (AV) graft partially occluded with a blood clot. We expect to achieve this by means of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) techniques where the fluid domain (blood) is continuously exerting forces (normal and tangential) on the solid domain (AV graft and blood clot). The outcome of this project will be the quantification of stresses on the graft wall and blood-clot/fluid interface, as well as flow patterns within the graft, that exist for various geometrical configurations of blood clot representing different degrees of graft occlusion.
